Reasons you should In- Service Test ( PAT ) your electrical appliances

THe UK Health and Safety Executive along with insurance companies will expect you to demonstrate that you are compliant with certain regulations including: Health and Safety at Work Act of 1974. The Electricity at Work Regulations of 1989. The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations of 1998 to name but a few, these say that you must maintain Your equipment, in-service testing (PAT) is the best way to do this and provides certification from a professional that the items are safe for yourself, your staff and your customers to use.

What we do / Our Test Procedure

Our testing procedure starts with a full formal visual inspection and check of any fuse , plug & wiring followed by an extensive electronic test as required under the 5th edition of the IET COP, A passed / fail sticker will be fixed after completion of the test and logged on the asset register

Minor repairs on failed items, I.e plug re-wiring will be completed in with the price along with a free re-test of the item after repair. If your item requires a replacement plug or fuse then a small charge will be made to cover our extra costs of supplying these ( see our repairs page )

What Happens once we've tested your Appliances

Following testing of your equipment you will be issued with a PAT test certificate / asset register, detailing all the equipment tested. recommended re-test date based on a risk assessment of your equipment and it's usage inline with the 5th edition code of practice & discussed with yourself

Our Test Equipment

We use a state of the art appliance test machine from Kewtech the 'Smartpat' which is capable of testing all 110v & 230v Appliances and Leads, This is connected wireless to our Tablet which we use to input & store all of your appliance information, this is then emailed to your after all the tests are complete, we also have the Kewtech 80L printer to print your appliance id , Pass / Fail labels onsite wirelessly. Each label includes a barcode so when it comes to retest time, we just need to scan the label and straight to the test without having to input all the information again, this also allows us to compare past results.

For testing fixed appliances we have a Kewtech KT1975 voltage tester (with proving box) & kewtech duo stick for checking the circuit isnt Live along with a full lock off kit as outlined in the 5th Edition of the code of practice

We also carry a Seaward Primetest as a backup

Our Appliance test machines are fully calibrated as per IET requirements on a 12 month basis

What can we test ?

We can test the following

standard 230v 13 amp, 16 / 32 amp Appliances with fixed & detachable power leads,
Power cords & extension leads including surge protected & Rcd's,
Fixed items (E.g. hand dryers etc)
110v equipment & leads
We complete all the standard tests as required under the 5th Edition Code Of Practice but we are also able to offer extra 110v & 230v Run & Leak tests if requested by the client on equipment upto 3kva

Also by prior arrangement we can test 3 phase (We dont carry these cables as standard unless we know we need them)

Travel Charges etc

For visits in or within 5 miles of Burton Upon Trent we don't charge any extra mileage, for visits further than this we charge £1 per mile, this is to cover our driving time and fuel costs.

Other charges which may be passed to the client include Ulez or congestion charges along with any parking charges incurred during our visit unless agreed a set price prior which includes these

Are we insured ?

Yes we have a trade insurance policy that covers us for Public Liability and also Professional Liability
